Westchester County District Attorney Anthony Scarpino, Jr. announced on Friday that Manhattan resident Rosa Ramirez has been arraigned in Westchester County Court and charged with individual counts of second-degree murder, menacing and two counts of fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.
According to Scarpino, on the day of the incident, Ramirez was in the River City Grille on Broadway in Irvington, where she was employed. While working in the kitchen as a dishwasher, shortly after 11 a.m., Ramirez allegedly attacked the prep cook, Yonkers resident Bonifacio Rodriguez, 38, with a kitchen knife.
During the incident, officials said that Rodriguez, “tried to protect himself, but was stabbed multiple times.” Another employee in the kitchen attempted to intervene, was allegedly threatened by Rodriguez, but was not injured.
Rodriguez was taken to Westchester County Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Scarpino noted that Ramirez had only worked at River City Grille for a few days before the fatal incident.
It was Irvington's first murder since Jan. 17, 1974 when a 41-year-old housewife was stabbed to death by an 18-year-old man on Havermeyer Road.
Ramirez has been remanded into the custody of the Westchester County Jail without bail. She is due back in Westchester County Court on June 5 to answer the charges.
